Nvidia lifts futures, Dow lags before open

Wall Street closed Wednesday roughly where it started, with the S&P 500 at 7,675.70, down 0.02%, the Dow at 53,463.88, down 0.21%, and the Nasdaq Composite at 26,130.20, down 0.08%. Nvidia then reported after the bell, posting revenue of $96.2 billion and guiding to $105.8 billion to $110.6 billion for the current quarter, plus roughly 70% revenue growth in the fiscal year ending January 2028 against the 44% analysts expected, and the stock is up about 6% before the open. Asia was mixed, with Japan's Nikkei 225 down 0.2% and South Korea's Kospi up 1.5%, Europe's STOXX 600 is down 0.1% even as European tech stocks gain 1.3%, and US futures point higher, with the Nasdaq 100 up about 1.0% and the S&P 500 up 0.4% while Dow futures slip.

The Kansas City Fed's August survey arrives at 11am Eastern, a regional check on factory activity that gives an early read on whether the industrial side of the economy is holding up. Weekly jobless claims and the July goods trade balance landed before the open, and results from Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Ulta Beauty later today will show whether shoppers are still spending at the value end of retail. The bigger event is tomorrow, when Fed Chair Kevin Warsh speaks at Jackson Hole, the annual central banking conference where officials often signal where interest rates are heading.
